If you have not modified what appears on your side by using Widgets under Appearance, the number of posts under each category should show. However, if you have customized the sidebar by selecting the desired “widgets” for your sidebar (Appearance > Widgets), the post count for each category is disabled by default.
To enable post count, click Edit next to “Categories”. Select “Show post counts” and click Done. Click Save Changes.
