Typically WordPress will show the entire blog posting on the main page. Sometime you might desire only an excerpt, providing the visitor a link to click if they desire to read the entire blog post.
This can be done per post, by adding a more comment tag. Select where you would like the excerpt to end and click the Insert More tag icon.
Visual Mode
The Insert More tag icon is the fourth from the right.
HTML Mode
The Insert More tag icon is the second from the left in the top row.
Alternatively, in both modes you can use the keyboard (Alt+Shift+T).
