Ubuntu 9.04 offers the ability for Guest Sessions, through the User Switcher application docked on the top panel. This can be removed, if desired, by right clicking it and selecting Remove From Panel. With the User Switcher enabled, there will be no logout/shutdown/guest session or any of the other options available through the menu system. Removing the User Switcher yields a link to Lock Screen, Log Out [username], and Shut Down. However, there is no option for a guest session.
For a Guest Session, you could create a launcher on the desktop (right click desktop and choose Create Launcher…)
Name: Guest Session
Command: /usr/share/gdm/guest-session/guest-session-launch
Comment: Launches a Guest Session
Click OK.
A launcher could also be added to the menu.
Main Menu (everything under one item)
Right click menu and choose Edit Menus. Click New Item. Make sure Application is selected for type and use the items above. Click OK when finished. Drag the item to the bottom of the list and it will appear below Add/Remove… in the Menu (or last on Applications menu)
Menu Bar (Applications, Places, System)
Right click menu and choose Edit Menus. Select system in the left and then click New Item. Follow the rest of the step above. This would result in the guest session launcher being available under the System menu along with the other options (shutdown/logout).
