WordPress: Category Post Count

If you have not modified what appears on your side by using Widgets under Appearance, the number of posts under each category should show. However, if you have customized the sidebar by selecting the desired “widgets” for your sidebar (Appearance > Widgets), the post count for each category is disabled by default.
Count those posts…

WordPress: Modify More Link

Note: Post updated to reflect line change in WordPress 2.8.
If you have setup the main page to show only an excerpt of your choosing by inserting the <!–More–> tag, WordPress by default loads the page and “jumps” to the place where the <!–More–> tag is set in the post. This can be overridden as a default setting by changing a line in wp-includes/post-template.php.

Ubuntu 9.04: Start Pidgin Minimized

NOTE: While this information is nearly the same as for Ubuntu 8.10, if you are using Ubuntu 8.10 use the post for Pidgin under Ubuntu 8.10 instead.
By default, Pidgin does not automatically start on system start nor does it do so minimized. With a little work, we can accomplish our intended goal of starting Pidgin minimized.

FireFox Personas

Personas are lightweight, easy-to-install and easy-to-change “skins” for your Firefox web browser. Firefox allows for personas to be used, changing the look of your Firefox web browser. With just a few clicks, you can easily switch between Personas. There are many to choose from, but I have listed below some of my favorites, with direct links.

Ubuntu: Automatic Login

Ubuntu (and Linux) are considered secure in part due to the requiring of passwords to install software or configure the system. A password is also required to login to the computer. However, if desired, the computer can be setup to automatically login a specific user.

Out of the box, WordPress does not enable images to be used for post categories. This can be enabled through the use of the Category Images II plugin.

WordPress: Show Excerpt

Typically WordPress will show the entire blog posting on the main page. Sometime you might desire only an excerpt, providing the visitor a link to click if they desire to read the entire blog post.

WordPress: Double Hyphens Convert?
June 2nd, 2009Note: Post updated to reflect line change in WordPress 2.9.
There might be a time when you want to post an entry with double hyphens. However, WordPress wants to show items containing more than one hyphen in a row as a solid line. This is not the desired affect you are after. Thank goodness there is a way to disable this from happening blog wide.
